fellowship
a fellowship can be seen
as a group of people who together are aimed at fostering a sense of
fellowship, that is, mutual support and common purpose (friendly
association with others)
there are
two purposes of engaging in fellowship as a christian
- to strengthen and help
yourself and other christians in following god's word and becoming
more like christ
- to pave the way, by
example and word, for others who are not yet in the fold of christ, to
get there
it is in being together
with others that your conduct as a christian will become apparent.
it is also
whilst fellowshipping that opportunities will arise to share
your opinions and beliefs.
in order
to fellowship you must be friendly and your normal self.
when being
together with others as a christian one must guard against three things:
- compromising
your moral standards as christian, even (especially) if you
reason that it might make you more acceptable to the other people
present and by doing so not offending them
- use language
and signs which could be described as 'christianese' such as “I am washed in
the blood of the Lamb” or crossing yourself as this may make
people uncomfortable and has the potential of leading to conflict
- avoid conflict
- it is not your mission to be a warrior, be gentle but firm. god's
holy spirit will continue nurturing the seeds of faith that you sow,
trust him!
fellowship includes
sharing food with others. here also there are guidelines in god's word.
- first of all we are told
in luke 10:7 "And in the same house remain, eating and
drinking such things as they give..." - in other words share
whatever is being offered you!
- secondly we must not
consume anything as stated in romans 14:14 "
But if anyone
regards something as unclean, then for him
it is unclean. If
your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer
acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother
for whom Christ died."
- and thirdly, take
cognizance of the influence of what you eat might have on the other
person, as matthew henry states regarding 1 corinthians 8 "...But
the apostle cautions against putting a stumbling-block in the way of
the weak; lest they be made bold to eat what was offered to the idol,
not as common food, but as a sacrifice, and thereby be guilty of
idolatry."
fellowship over a meal
is one of the oldest, most respected and efficient ways during which
humans communicate and is an integral part of every culture.
now let's
move on to the third step, meeting
needs ... |

John 14:6
Jesus
said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to
the Father except through Me.
"Ich bin
der Weg!", antwortete Jesus. "Ich bin die Wahrheit und das Leben! Zum
Vater kommt man nur durch mich.
