bless

what is blessing?

a  blessing, (also used to refer to bestowing of such) is the infusion of something with holiness, divine will, or one's hopes.

to bless is not the sole prerogative of a minister or pastor, every christian (in the new testament) or any god fearing individual (in the old testament) can bless someone or something.

where did it start?

as with all things great, the lord was the first to bless. he approved of creation and in genesis 1:4  we read the wonderful words "And God saw the light, that it was good...." - if god says something is good it surely is blessed!

the first mentioning of the word 'bless' occurs in genesis 1:22, and he blesses abram in genesis 12, stating:

  • 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

in deuteronomy 28 the lord blesses israel:

  • "2 All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: 3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. 6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go..."

in numbers chapter 6 the lord told moses to tell aaron and his sons to bless israel in the following manner:

  • 6:24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
6:25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
6:26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

what must i bless?

we must bless people, places (cities, buildings, towns) and things (the sea, mountains - see deuteronomy above, etc...) - as god created everything it is apt for us to bless his creation!

why?

because god blesses them!

he also blesses our enemies and wants us to do likewise because he loves all people!

  • matthew 5:44 "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"

how must i bless?

a very good example is the above quote from god:

  • The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

a short prayer or thought thus.

the beautiful thing is a prayer and blessing can be done at any time and with opened eyes. another wonderful bonus is that as you bless and pray peace on something - especially another annoying person, or your enemy, you somehow also start to feel better. your stress and anxiety levels will decrease, you will find that erstwhile enemies start to become your friends etc - and all this without stress medication or special diets or management programs!

and this is only the first easy step to becoming an efficient disciple of christ,

the next step is fellowship...

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

"Ich bin der Weg!", antwortete Jesus. "Ich bin die Wahrheit und das Leben! Zum Vater kommt man nur durch mich.
