The wedding garment - Jesus Christ

So you thought - as I did - that you are a Christian destined for Eternal Life?

You really believe, like most 'redeemed' or 'born again' Christians, that having accepted the wedding invitation Christ is referring to in Matthew 22 and being one of the wedding guests ensures eternal life? Read again what Christ said and test yourself in the presence of the living God:

11 And the king coming in to look over the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 And he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here without having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.13 Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.14 For many are called, but few chosen.

What must we make of that?
Why would God cast someone out of His presence who accepted His invitation?
What is meant by the 'wedding garment'?

Matthew Henry answers:

"Those, and those only, who put on the Lord Jesus, that have a Christian temper of mind, and are adorned with Christian graces, who live by faith in Christ, and to whom he is all in all, have the wedding garment."

The fact that God does not berate the servants for letting in the guest without a wedding garment indicates that it is not an outward manifestation, but an inward thing, only visible to God, hence the guest being speechless (Greek ephimōthē = he was being muzzled), the man stood mute, upon his arraignment, being convicted and condemned by his own conscience!

The answer here is - CHRIST!

ONLY CHRIST!
